The ballot for the 2027 London to Brighton Bike Ride closes on 27 September. Twelve days from now, if you want to be in the draw for the 50th edition.
The ride has been running since the late 1970s, which makes it Europe’s oldest charity bike ride. The British Heart Foundation is marking the anniversary with a commemorative medal for every finisher. After 54 miles on the bike, a piece of metal feels earned.
The route goes from Clapham Common through Surrey and over the South Downs, with the majority on closed, traffic-free roads. You climb over Ditchling Beacon and then it’s mostly downhill, dropping into the city with the sea in front of you. The finish is on Madeira Drive, the flat seafront stretch that runs below the cast-iron arches near Brighton Palace Pier. There’s usually a crowd lining the last few hundred metres. After the Downs, it’s a different kind of effort.
Road closures, spectator spots, and where to stand at the finish are all in our London to Brighton Bike Ride 2026 guide. The 2027 course follows the same route. If you’re training on the seafront or the coastal path, our running routes guide has the local options.
How the ballot works:
The ballot is free to enter. If you get a place, it costs £55 to confirm. Alternatively, a charity place is available for £40 upfront with a suggested fundraising target of £350 for the BHF. You don’t have to hit the fundraising figure to take part.
Results from the draw go out on 28 September, the day after the ballot closes. Successful applicants have until 29 October to pay and confirm.
Enter at bhf.org.uk before 27 September. The ride is Sunday 20 June 2027.
