New Competition to Shine a Light on Brighton's Best Businesses

A new national competition is asking people to nominate their favourite local Brighton business, with a £1,000 prize for the winner and the person who put them forward.

A competition is running to find the UK’s Favourite Local Business 2026, and Brighton businesses are in the mix. Nominations are free, take a couple of minutes, and there’s a £1,000 Town & City Gift Card for the winning business. The person who nominates them wins a £1,000 card too.

The competition is run by Brilliant Brighton in partnership with Miconex, the company behind the Town & City Gift Card scheme. Any local business qualifies. Shops, restaurants, salons, hotels, attractions and services are all eligible. The brief is just to name a business and say why it deserves to win.

Nominations go in at lovelocalwin.co.uk. Deadline is 30 November 2026.

The research that prompted the competition makes familiar reading: 99% of people who took part in a survey said supporting local businesses matters, and 73% said it matters more than it did a year ago. Whether or not that translates into actual spend is a different question, but the principle is sound.

Brighton has a stronger independent sector than most UK cities of its size. There’s a pub that’s been in the same family for three generations, jewellers in the Lanes who’ve been making bespoke work since before Instagram existed, and food businesses that started on market stalls and are now restaurants people travel to. Plenty of options to nominate. The gift shopping guide has some of the shops worth thinking about if you’re trying to choose.
