Contribute to Brighton Insider

Brighton Insider is built by people who love this city. If you know Brighton — really know it, beyond the obvious — we'd love to hear from you. We're looking for writers, photographers, event spotters, and social media creators to help us cover the places and moments that make this city what it is.

Ways to get involved

Writers

Review restaurants, pubs, cafes, and experiences. Write neighbourhood profiles, event round-ups, or deep dives into what makes a place tick. Your voice, your perspective — we just make sure it reads well.

Photographers

Shoot venues, events, street scenes, and the little details that give Brighton its character. Your photos appear across the site with full credit — and you keep the copyright.

Event listers

Help us keep Brighton's events calendar accurate and complete. If you're always the first to know about a gig, a pop-up, or a market, this is your thing. Spot it, send it, we'll list it.

Social media creators

Create short-form content — reels, stories, TikToks — that captures the energy of Brighton. Cover events, review places, or just show off the city. We'll share your work and credit you across our channels.

What's in it for you

Contributing to Brighton Insider gets you into places most people don't get to experience for free. Reviewers eat and drink at the venues they cover — that's how reviews work. Event contributors get press tickets to gigs, exhibitions, comedy nights, and festivals across the city.

Every piece you write carries your byline. Every photo carries your credit. You build a real portfolio of published work that you can point employers, clients, or editors to. Regular contributors get priority for the best assignments — the restaurant openings, the headline gigs, the events everyone wants to cover.

How it works

1

Tell us about yourself

Drop us an email. Tell us what you're interested in — writing, photography, events, social. Include any links to previous work if you have them, but it's not essential.

2

We match you up

We'll have a chat about what kind of content suits you, what you'd enjoy covering, and how often you'd like to contribute. No pressure, no minimum commitment.

3

Start covering Brighton

Once you're set up, we'll start sending opportunities your way. New contributors begin with shorter pieces. Regulars get first pick of the best assignments.

How contributors progress

New contributors start with shorter pieces — a venue listing, an event write-up, a photo set. This lets us get to know your style and lets you get comfortable with how we work. As you build up a track record, you'll get priority for the assignments that matter most: restaurant reviews, press ticket events, feature photography, and the pieces that get the most attention on the site and across our social channels.

Get in touch

If any of this sounds like you, send us an email. Tell us a bit about yourself, what you'd like to do, and — if you have them — links to any previous work. Don't overthink it. We're friendly.

Get in touch to get started

All contributors follow our editorial standards. Every piece is edited before publication and held to the same bar as our own work.

Common Questions

Do I need to be a professional writer or photographer?
No. We care about enthusiasm and local knowledge more than credentials. If you know Brighton well and can communicate what makes a place special, that's what matters. We edit everything before it goes live, so don't worry about being polished — just be genuine.
Is this paid work?
No — contributing to Brighton Insider is unpaid. What you do get is real-world portfolio pieces with your byline, access to events and press tickets, and food and drink at reviewed venues. For writers and photographers building a body of work, it's a practical way to get published and credited.
How much time does it take?
Entirely up to you. Some contributors write one piece a month. Others cover a handful of events a year. There's no minimum commitment — contribute when you can, at a pace that works for you.
I run my own business in Brighton — can I still contribute?
Yes, but you can't review or write about your own business or direct competitors. We'll always be upfront about conflicts of interest. If you run a coffee shop, you can review a pub. You can't review the cafe next door.
Who owns the copyright?
You retain copyright of your work. By submitting, you grant Brighton Insider a licence to publish, edit, and use the content on our site and social channels. You're free to use your work in your own portfolio.
How do I submit content?
Once you're set up as a contributor, we'll agree what you're covering and share our simple submission process. Written pieces come as Google Docs or plain text. Photos come as high-resolution JPEGs. We handle everything from there.
